Le 22 juin 1962, un Boeing 707, le Château de Chantilly, de la compagnie Air-France, en provenance de Paris, via Lisbonne, s'est écrasé sur les hauteurs de Caféière. Il y eut plus d'une centaine de victimes, dont l'écrivain, administrateur et militant français Albert Béville alias Paul NIGER et le Député Guyanais Justin CATAYEE.

On June 22, 1962, an Air France Boeing 707, the Château de Chantilly, coming from Paris, via Lisbon, crashed on the heights of Caféière. There
